祖里安在《圣诗学全书》提到奥文思： 她在一八二九年七月二十一日出生，兼有苏格兰与威尔士血统，如今（一九零六年）定居美国巴尔的摩，投身公校教育工作。奥文思参与主日学事工有五十年光景，她大部分圣诗 都为孩童而写，例如载于一八九八年苏格兰《教会圣诗本》的《主救罪人》，这歌为某主日学机构周年庆典而写，调寄法国歌剧 《胡格诺人》其中一段。 奥文思另一名作《你灵魂锚是否抛牢》曾获少年军采纳为会歌。
