诗歌背景资料：
作者弗茜丝在她完全顺服基督之前，耗尽不少岁月与精力，务求赚取神的悦纳，却徒劳无功。这段凄苦经历教她看清神恩典是什么一回事：人在神的面前，唯独仰赖神的恩典。弗茜丝的这首《做主军人歌》就是以神的恩典为题：人成为基督徒全因为“主慈悲军令，藉主神圣恩”，而人跟从主，是“藉主爱力吸引”。弗茜丝认为，人既然在得救的事上一无所靠（唯靠神的恩典），那么，把自己奉献给神为祭（基督徒不再属己，乃属基督），岂不是理所当然？
